Passchendaele 1914 - 1917

There is a lot going on in this region to commemorate the third battle of Ypres - Passchendaele..

A good starting point would be the Memorial Museum in Zonnebeke - http://www.passchendaele.be/eng/events.html

They have a list of Remembrance activities going on in the region, download the brochure from the site. This goes on until 11/11/2007

It contain info on events, walks, concerts and exhibitions - the one in passchendael church called “Known unto God” is and excellent photo exhibition.

Tyne Cot Cemetary has a new visitors centre and a temp exhibition.

Around the corner from Tyne Cot is Water Fields 1914-18 - this is a Canadian Exhibition and café bar - well worth a visit, and an ideal place for refreshments as there is little in this area.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow, between the crosses, row on row, that mark our place; and in the sky the larks, still singing, fly - scarce heard amid the guns below. we are the dead. Short days ago we lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved, and were loved, and now we lie - in Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe; To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die, we shall not sleep, though poppies grow..... In Flanders fields....
