On the 9th April 1917, Vimy Ridge was probably the strongest German defensive position in northern France.
The Canadian Corps attacked on this day using miles of tunnels they had dug out, to approach the enemy lines.
By mid day, only the highest point of hill 145, remained in German hands and the Canadians won that the next day.
German casualties were 20,000 and Canadian casualties were 10,000.
Four VC’s were won in the offencive.
