The battle of Neuve Chapelle was prompted by French doubts about the British commitment to the conflict. It was the first British initiated offensive of the war.
General Haigs first Army took the village of Neuve Chapelle on the first day, March 10th 1915, however the British shortage of ammunition and a quick movement of troops by Von Falkenhayn prevented a break through.
British casualties were 13,000 and German 14,000.
